Corner Lot and Hampton Golf Acquire Glen Kernan Golf and Country Club, Alongside Jim Furyk and Cam Smith

Corner Lot proudly announces its recent acquisition of the esteemed Glen Kernan Golf and Country Club. With a vision to elevate the club to new heights, Corner Lot is partnering with Hampton Golf to embark on a comprehensive transformation, positioning Glen Kernan as one of the premier golf and country clubs in the Southeast. 

Glen Kernan Golf and Country Club was established in 1999 by the Hodges family, a predominant developer in Northeast Florida. The private golf community for over two decades has been known for its exclusivity and private nature but has experienced some deferred maintenance in recent years. The golf course, clubhouse and athletic amenities will undergo a significant renovation beginning January 2024. The course is anticipated to reopen in January 2025.

At the heart of this exciting venture is the collaboration with world-renowned golfer and golf course designer, Jim Furyk. A 30-year veteran of the PGA TOUR with a resume including 17 tour wins, the 2003 U.S. Open and 2010 FedEx Cup Championship, Furyk and his Furyk Golf Design team bring his expertise to redesign the course, promising an unparalleled golfing experience for members and guests alike. The course was originally designed by Mr. Robert Walker. 

“I’ve had the pleasure of recently becoming friends with Jim and Cam over the past couple of years. When this opportunity came up, I wanted to put a team and partnership in place with an aligned vision for a golf club that will have a greater impact on our community by bringing a golf experience second to none in Jacksonville. Corner Lot’s mission is to build up our city through smart development and partnerships. This one may take the cake!” Said Andy Allen, CEO of Corner Lot.

“Jim Furyk was a natural selection for the job as he has been a long-time member of the club and is currently designing Glynlea Country Club in Port St. Lucie for Hampton Golf,” said M.G. Orender, President of Hampton Golf and 33rd President of The PGA of America. “Jim and I have been good friends for over 20 years and his design eye is impeccable,” said Orender. 

“Glen Kernan has had a special place in my heart as my father, my son and I have enjoyed the course for many years. I love the vision that Corner Lot and Hampton Golf have for the club and I’m excited to help create that vision by redesigning the golf course,” Jim Furyk said. 

The ultra-private club is centrally located between the Beaches and I-95 off John Turner Butler Boulevard between Kernan and Hodges Boulevards. The Club is easily accessible from anywhere in the city. Glen Kernan Country Club will have a membership initially occupied by its residents in the private gated community and then an invitation-only program to follow for non-residents. “We anticipate a fairly expeditious timeline until the Club is full and on a waitlist, as there are very limited memberships available outside of the gates,” said Travis Norman, COO of Hampton Golf, which will manage the Club. “We look forward to providing gracious hospitality for our Residents and Club Members in the future,” said Norman. 

The cornerstone of Corner Lot’s commitment to excellence lies in the full-scale renovation of the clubhouse. The redesigned clubhouse will not only expand in size but will also undergo a complete aesthetic transformation, featuring modern architecture and state-of-the-art facilities. The enhanced clubhouse will serve as a luxurious focal point for members, providing a welcoming atmosphere to socialize, dine, and celebrate. 

Avant is the general contractor doing construction and Bold Line is the architect.

One of the highlights of this project is the introduction of a new culinary experience led by a renowned chef, carefully selected to elevate the dining options at Glen Kernan. The revamped menu will feature an array of gourmet offerings, catering to diverse tastes and preferences.

Corner Lot is committed to preserving the rich history and traditions of Glen Kernan while infusing fresh and dynamic energy into the club. The revitalized golf course, coupled with the enhanced clubhouse and culinary offerings, aims to create a unique and unparalleled experience for Residents and Club Members.
