Johnson Commons, Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing Park, and the UF Health Jacksonville Graduate Campus: Transforming LaVilla

LaVilla, once known as the “Harlem of the South,” is undergoing an inspiring revitalization in Downtown Jacksonville. Three cornerstone projects — Johnson Commons, Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing Park, and the new UF Health Jacksonville Graduate Campus — are leading this transformation.

Johnson Commons is developed through a partnership between Corner Lot and JWB Real Estate Capital. It brings 91 modern townhomes to LaVilla, creating a walkable, urban community connected to downtown amenities.

Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing Park, named after the iconic song by Jacksonville natives James Weldon Johnson and John Rosamond Johnson, celebrates African American heritage through green spaces, art, and community gathering areas.

Nearby, the UF Health Jacksonville Graduate Campus, part of the University of Florida’s expansion, will bring a $300 million graduate and research center. It focuses on health, medicine, and technology. This transformative project will attract students, faculty, and researchers. It helps to energize LaVilla and strengthen Jacksonville’s position as an innovation hub.
